- Optimising efficiency and productivity with powerful search improvements
- Greatly improved global collaboration with new functionality in DDM Web
- Powerful visibility and modification control on data with enhanced Business Units
Optimising Efficiency and Productivity
The user interface has been updated in line with the MS Windows 7 look and feel giving a clean, modern appearance and a familiar user experience. In the new release, there has been a continued focus on productivity improvements such as reducing mouse clicks and automating housekeeping steps where possible, this is particularly the case with Documents. Examples include a direct ‘Release’ option for documents, housekeeping options to automatically unreserve and remove items from the users Workbench on release and automatically generated thumbnails for any image files. The Category Browser (formerly known as Classification Tree) is a great way to organise and quickly find objects in DDM. Administration of the Category Browser has been simplified with authorised users able to dynamically add and edit Categories from the main user interface as well as the ability to categorise multiple items in one hit.
Improved Global Collaboration
DDM Web is a great way to gives easy access to drawings and documents outside of the design office, connecting your business across global teams and your supply chain enabling you to access your design data real-time wherever you are. New features have been introduced and the user interface given a new look. The UI can now be customised to show your customers, suppliers and users your company logo and corporate colours as soon as they open DDM. New features include BOM export and print options, item subscription and folder content download, alongside the option of subscribing to be notified of any changes made to items in a folder.
Powerful Visibility and Modification Control
Originally Business Units were introduced to extend the basic Access Controls for larger organisations. By allocating users to Business Units and adding Business Unit ownership to items in DDM, users from one Business Unit could be prevented from modifying objects owned by another Business Unit. Objects could be copied (Save As, Create Like), but not modified or up-issued.
In DDM 2010.2 these controls have been extended to control visibility of DDM items based on Business Unit ownership. Objects owned by one business unit can now be hidden to users from another Business Unit giving powerful control and flexibility over business visibility. In addition Business Unit controls have been extended to control Folders as well as Parts, Assemblies, Drawings and Documents. Now, sensitive items can be locked to a Business Units ensuring the correct security and visibility.
DDM Administration also sees new features, making it easier to administer than ever before. Simple ideas, such as ‘Add Similar’ allows creation of new users who have similar roles to an existing user, the new user automatically adopting the groups, roles and access controls of the existing user. DDM 2010.2 introduces ‘Profiles’ that allow an administrator to control which database classes a user will see. In this way, if a user only works with Documents, then Parts, Assemblies and Drawings can be removed from the user interface.
